Mrs. Eliza Hipes, an old resident of the county, died this morning at the home of Silas Misner in Smartsburg. Mrs. Hipes was 74 years of age. The services will be held tomorrow afternoon from the Smartsburg Baptist Church at 3 o’clock. Interment at Lee Cemetery – thanks to Kim H

Eliza Widner (sic – Misner) was born in Butler County, Ohio, Dec 14, 1823, died October 17, 1903, aged 79 years 10 months and three days. She was married to Alex Hipes in the year 1846. He departed this life in 1851. To this union was born two children, Frank and Martha, both dying 25 years ago. She was the youngest child of a family of 14 children. She made her home for the last 15 years with her nephew, Silas Misner. She leaves an aged sister, Amanda Misner, who is 85 years old and many friends to mourn her loss. Her funeral was preached Sunday at the Baptist Church by Rev. MM Canine of Crawfordsville. Her remains were laid to rest at the Smartsburg cemetery.
